Marmet, West Virginia is very small populated town in Kanawha County. Marmet is known for being a small coal town. In the year 1900 the towns name was changed to Marmet being named after the Marmet Coal Company that employed the male residents of the town. Marmet Lock and Dam is a popular tourist destination, many people swim in the area and hike the tails leading the waterfalls and rock climbing. The town has a rich history when it comes to West Virginia coal mining, in 1912 The Miner's March took place in Marmet that later led to the Battle of Blair Mountain involving more the 15,000 coal miners on strike against work conditions. Marmet has a large Rec Center where many youth league sports teams play, and many churches and community events are held there.
