Clendenin, is a small town in Kanawha County West Virginia. Clendenin is known for having the first petrochemical plant in the world in 1920. The town was named after the Clendenin family, they were one of the first settlers in the area. In 2016 Clendenin suffered extensive damage from a disasters' flood destroying most of the town. in 1966 two high school teenagers claimed to have seen the infamous West Virginia monster "Mothman". Clendenin has many historical sights such as Roxy Theater, The Hedges Mansion, Morris Creek Wildlife Center, and the Elk Refinery. Clendenin is home to some famous names in the NFL Bill Karr from the Chicago Bear, Billy Joe Mantooth from the Philadelphia Eagles, and Dave Stephenson from the Green Bay Packers. Mostly a residential town Clendenin does have many churches, banks, and other commercial buildings.
