The Moonshine Rod Run occurs on the third Friday and Saturday in June at Newport City Park. Sponsored by the Hard Times Street Rod Club, this event features several hundred vintage and antique cars. The festivities start with a parade and a delicious barbeque meal. Many people enjoy watching a race and missed the Speedway when it closed down in 2017. Thanks to Chuck Ward, the Speedway Raceway is fully functional, with races held almost every Saturday this spring and summer. 

Also in City Park is the outdoor public pool. Open during the summer, many enjoy the water slide and the nearby playground. The Community Center's indoor pool is open year-round. There are classes and adult swim sessions nearly every weekday. If swimming doesn't interest you, there are other activities at the Community Center. Toddlers and older can enroll in gymnastics classes. Indoor volleyball and basketball courts and an indoor racquetball court are available.
