The name Pfafftown came from Peter Pfaff Sr. He bought a tract of land west of the Muddy Creek, which later became the Village of Pfafftown. Pfaff’s house, the John Schaub House, and the Weller House are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

To preserve their 200-year-old community, the village tried to no avail to incorporate. This was done to try to prevent the neighboring larger municipalities from annexing them.
