Weymouth is a town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts in the South Shore area. Weymouth is one of the more affordable towns in the area and has easy access to Boston, MBTA, and bus and rail services. It also has a lovely town beach for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The weather in Weymouth, Massachusetts is comparable to that of the rest of Greater Boston: cold and mild. January temperatures average 22 degrees Fahrenheit on the low side while July's reach 82 degrees Fahrenheit on the high side.
History of Weymouth, MA
Weymouth is one of the oldest settlements in Massachusetts, second only to Plymouth. This area began as a poorly planned settlement. The settlers in this area were motivated by economics and were ill-prepared for the harshness that New England brought them.
The early days of Weymouth were full of tension between the native American tribes in the area and the new settlers. Eventually, the early colony came to an end.
Fast forward to post-colonization and Weymouth was a major player in the shoe industry with Stetson Shoe Company from the early 18th century to 1973 when the company closed. The original building is currently used as medical offices.
The town hall was destroyed in 1914 by fire and rebuilt in 1928 to be a replica of the old Massachusetts State House.
