On August 10 of 2020, the Derecho storm took all of us here in Iowa by surprise and left a massive trail of destruction. It hit and swept over my home and many others. I arrived at my house after being stranded on the side of the interstate where I had waited for the storm to pass to discover that my home was on fire.
The fire and water damage to my home was overwhelming. As I was trying to figure out how insurance requires which contractors were available and were not already booked for the next six months, and where was I going to live, SERVPRO reached out to me because of the local newspaper article written about my home. They have been a blessing because although insurance was going to help me work through this tragedy in time, I had no idea how to navigate any of the mess. Dealing with a house fire was completely new, confusing and overwhelming to me. Don and Jeff from SERVPRO helped me find contractors, clean the mess and assist me in navigating through so many steps. Most importantly they helped me deal with the insurance company so the work to restore my destroyed home could move forward. Through the help of SERVPRO I have been able to make decisions regarding putting my home back in order. I would never have been able to regain my footing without their consistent help, knowledge of who to contact, direction and helpful disposition. Although I am still in the process of finishing restoring my home I am thankful to SERVPRO who is continuing to work by my side.
