Located just a few miles north of Casper, Bar Nunn is a somewhat “younger” town in Central Wyoming. Natrona County’s first airport, Wardwell Field Airport, operated until 1952 before moving airport operations to the former Casper Army Airfield. Romie Nunn, known as “The Runway Rancher”, purchased the land. He ultimately parceled out much of the land for parks, schools, and businesses, using the old runways as streets. The Bar Nunn subdivision officially became the Town of Bar Nunn in 1982.
Bar Nunn experienced explosive growth caused by a booming Wyoming energy-sector economy. Between 2000 and 2010, the town had a population increase of greater than sixty percent, with scores of new homes and streets being built on the north end of town.
