Salmon Creek is home to roughly 22,000 people and received its name in earlier years due to the abundance of salmon settlers once pulled from the creek. On the weekends there is the local Vancouver Farmers market with a wide variety of Vendors and occasional festivals to celebrate culture, art and food. Salmon Creek is a generally safe area to live in but on occasion has experienced severe weather events like flooding, typhoons and smoke damage from surrounding wildfires. In 1962, Typhoon Freda ripped through Clark County at roughly 90mph wind speed. Airplanes at Pearson Airfield were crumpled like tin cans, fallen trees and branches littered the streets, boats at local marinas had either sunken into the Columbia river or the damage was severe enough that they may as well have been. Typhoon Freda claimed the lives of nearly 50 people and caused, in today's money, about $2.7 billion in storm and water damage restoration.
