Located in north Texas, just two hours from our Dallas neighbors to the south, and two hours from our Oklahoma City friends up north, this “big city with a small town feel” seemed ideal.
Our community is rich in history, and we celebrate the American spirit that settled this land. Early settlers arrived here in the 1860s, mainly as cattle ranchers. Officially named Wichita Falls on September 27, 1876 (as the Wichita River runs through the area and there was a waterfall in the river’s course during that time), it wasn’t long before this prairie town left its mark in the history books.
The city is home to the infamous Newby-McMahon Building (otherwise known as the "world's littlest skyscraper"), constructed downtown in 1919 and featured in Robert Ripley's Ripley's Believe It or Not!
Once home to family members of the Clyde and Barrow families, and frequented by Bonnie and Clyde, the city was a gateway for those hiding from the law in the surrounding metro areas.
Today, Wichita Falls has grown beyond the small prairie town of its past, and is home to Midwestern State University, Sheppard Air Force Base, and various manufacturing operations.
It is also a family-friendly city, with many amenities for residents of all ages.
