Vidor is about six miles east of Beaumont and part of the Beaumont-Port Arthur metropolitan statistical area. It is located at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Farm to Market Road 105. The population was around 9,700 in the 2020 census.

Vidor has a mild climate, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Historically, however—before the recent changes in weather patterns that have made this area colder and hotter than usual—the average temperature was lower or higher by several degrees. The area usually receives about 60 inches of rain each year—more than the national average.

History of Vidor, Texas

After the construction of the Texarkana and Fort Smith Railway, the are was heavily logged. It was named after Charles Shelton Vidor, who was the owner of the Miller-Vidor Lumber Company. The community had a post office and four years later, a company tram road.

Vidor is currently a commuter or bedroom community. Most people that live in the area commute elsewhere for work.
