The city of Rockwall is located 25 miles northeast of downtown Dallas on Interstate 30. The city of Rockwall was officially established on April 17, 1854 and became the county seat of Rockwall County when it was formed in 1873. Rockwall was given its name because of the numerous large underground rock walls that early settlers discovered while digging wells.
