Cedar Valley is about twelve miles southwest of Austin, Texas. In 1867 a man named Mark Thomas gave land for a school to be built and a few years later the area got a post office. By the mid-1880s Cedar Valley area farmers shipped cotton, wool, and hides. The population of Cedar Valley went up and down for the next hundred and twenty years, but has stabilized. Many residents enjoy the outdoors by going to the nearby Barton Creek Habitat Preserve where they can experience more than 4,000 acres of pristine natural landscape and Barton Creek. The preserve was originally acquired through the Endangered Species Act to protect migratory songbirds. Neighbors that are looking for entertainment can check out Austin's East Side Gem, the Sahara Lounge. It's a great place to hear live music, or lounge on the outdoor patio.
