The first settlement in Humboldt, South Dakota was registered in 1877. The town post office has been in operation since 1889, the year South Dakota gained its statehood. Every year in August, residents from all over the area gather together to celebrate the annual Humboldt Threshing Show. This multi-day event is an opportunity for citizens to gather together and take part in a number of contests that support and highlight the strong agricultural ties crucial to the area.
