Known to many on the west side of Sioux Falls, Tea-Ellis road acts as a main road that connects Highway 42 to Ellis, Sioux Falls, and finally, Tea. On top of the roads connecting many towns, Ellis is best known for the Ellis and Eastern Railroad company which connects to Brandon, South Dakota about 15 miles east. The name of the town stems from this railroad company. A drive through town takes you past agricultural co-ops which show you that agriculture is the backbone of this small town economy.

The summer of 2022 saw Southeastern South Dakota rocked by three Derecho level storms causing untold damage throughout the area. Roofs were torn off, leading to a need for water damage restoration services to dry out affected attics and ceilings.
