Daniel and James McHenry founded the first store in 1847. In 1899 Stillwater officially separated from Fishing Creek Township in 1899. There is very few industries on record for Stillwater and any that did exist had to mainly do with lumber. The main area is the Stillwater covered bridge No. 134 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The bridge is 151- feet long and was constructed with Burr Truss arch bridge and galvanized steel roof construction back in 1849. It was built over the Big Fishing Creek and is one of the 28 historic covered bridges in Columbia and Montour County.
