Marlboro Township is located in Monmouth County, NJ. Present-day Marlboro has been inhabited by Native Americans for a thousand years. Following that, several European powers contested claims up until the Revolutionary War when the town was the site of numerous fierce skirmishes between local militia and the British Army.
The town has experienced incredible growth over the past couple of decades which has transformed the historic farming community into a wealthy suburb of New York City. Many farms have been bought and converted into residential developments with “McMansions” common around town. Many of the newer residents moved to Marlboro from NYC, especially Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Advances in transportation were significant in facilitating this migration including the expansion of the Route 9 corridor, Route 19, and Route 79. Each of these has expanded access to various sections of town and made commuting to NY a more reasonable proposition.
The Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital was opened in the town in 1931 and housed 800 patients. The facility closed in 2009 and the land was largely donated to the Monmouth County Park System. From 1954 to 2000, the town had an airport that was used by the PNC Bank Arts Center to fly in performers including Howard Stern, Jimmy Buffet, and Bon Jovi, among others.
Marlboro has several senior communities including Sunrise Senior Living, Greenbriar, and Chelsea Senior Living. Sunrise is located in what many consider the unofficial downtown area near Route 79 and School House Road. Dining in this area includes Crown Palace Chinese, Bagel Talk, and Big Boy’s Pizza.
Down Route 79 across Route 18 is a series of strip malls that house Jersey Strong gym, Osteria Cucina Rustica, and CVS, among many others. SERVPRO was able to assist many town businesses with COVID-19 cleaning during the pandemic to allow these local businesses to remain safely open.
Four local fire companies including the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Company serve the town. SERVPRO has been happy to partner with these organizations and we have assisted many residents with fire damage restoration as well as water and storm damage.
