Rugby, North Dakota. Might not seem like much to the average person, but if you dig a little deeper into the town, you'll see that, geographically, it is the exact center of North America. We're not kidding. The center is marked with a monument, or cairn, that is pyramid form in shape. It is 21 feet high, 6 feet wide at its base, and setting on a heart shaped foundation. Nearby is the Northern Lights Tower, a monument honoring the Aurora Borealis, which dance through the night skies. Rugby was founded in 1886 at a junction on the Great Northern Railway, where a branch line to Bottineau met the main line. The railroad promoters initially platted the town as Rugby Junction, getting the name Rugby from the town of Rugby in Warwickshire, England.
