History of Boothbay Harbor
Boothbay Harbor was founded by settlers who arrived in the late 17th century. The area was first settled by Native Americans, and then later by the English. Around the turn of the century, it was made a port by a local merchant and ship builder, who helped transport lumber from surrounding forests. A settlement was established near his business to serve as housing for staff and laborers and soon became known as Boothbay Harbor. The town officially became an incorporated town in 1802 with a population of just over 300 residents.
