Clinton, KS is an unincorporated community in North Eastern Kansas that is situated on a peninsula next to Clinton Lake. In 1855 a post office was applied for and with in 8 months about 530 settlers came to make a home in what would be become Bloomington-Clinton. Two school houses, two churches, and a town hall were constructed in the first 5 years, as well as establishing the Clinton Cemetery in 1869- it's considered one of the oldest burial grounds in the county. The town of Clinton, however, didn't quite end up becoming the bustling town it originally looked like it would be. By 1910 there were a few churches and stores, a school, a blacksmith, and a money order post office with a population of only 83 people. The current Clinton Town Hall used to be one of the old school buildings and is still actively used and is considered the cultural center for activities in the Clinton Lake area.
In the mid 1960's land was purchased to construct Clinton Lake and the whole town of Bloomington was bulldozed. Clinton Lake is a reservoir lake that is now maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. There are day use areas at the lake as well as campgrounds to enjoy the beautiful lake. The town is now mostly occupied by farms and homes as well as some historical sites like the Clinton Cemetery.
