As a resort community in the late 1800s through the 1940s, Cedar Lake, Indiana had a history that included more than 50 hotels around the lake. The community has become more of a quiet suburb surrounding the 784 acre lake; still enticing fishermen and water sport lovers throughout the year.
The Potawatomi Indians first roamed the area, then called Lake of the Red Cedars. The land was part of the main food trail as they traveled west. The Indians found good hunting and fishing in the area. European hunters also came to Cedar Lake and a lodge built for them in 1834 still exists today. The arrival of the Monon Railway in the late 1800s led to Cedar Lake becoming a popular resort area for vacationers from Chicago.
Geologists believe the lake was formed as a result of a melting glacier. They conclude the natural lake was much bigger 150 years ago, evidenced by the 400 acres of wetland on the south end of the lake. Since wetlands tend to be flood generating areas, you never know when you will need the services of a professional. I am a Project Superintendent with a large construction management firm and was finishing up an Assisted Living project. In one of the 2nd Fl. Wing ceilings, a water pipe fitting failed, causing a flood in the hallway and floor below. Of course, this happened at 3:30 pm, and I needed access the damage, and clean up quickly because there were already tenants living there. I remember using SERVPRO years before and decided to give them a call. They were on site within an hour and started immediately to clean up water damage, open walls and removed wet insulation, set up fans, and dehumidifiers. SERVPRO worked into the evening and did not leave a stone unturned.
Due to their fast response, water damage was minimal, and we were able to repair, patch and paint within a few days. Their price was reasonable, they were very professional and I know I will gladly call SERVPRO again should the need arise.
This was an extremely difficult time for our family to deal with & this team was nothing short of extremely caring and courteous to our family. Ther kept me informed at work & Jarid ensured that my sitter/mother-in-law were comfortable & my son was safe. They interacted with everyone & really exude exceptional customer service.
Sara and Sam were amazing! They took the time to talk us thru everything they were doing. The way Sara, Sam and the rest of the staff worked was the best I’ve seen! Attentive, on time, very thorough and communication was great! I didn’t want them to leave. The owners even checked in on us- SERVPRO for the win!!
