Starting only two weeks after his 1899 island honeymoon with his bride Lillian Allen, Perry Snell began investing in the Island. A dozen years later, he made a much larger purchase to start developing the area and turning it into what we have today. Part of his contributions toward the future included the Women’s Club, where he donated a parcel of land in the southwest section.

Our wildlife includes several manatees during winter and our resident pelicans flying around Coffee Pot Bayou. Anyone boating near the Bird Preserve can help keep a protective eye on the many birds that call the cluster of mangroves their home.
