Escambia Farms, Florida, is located in the north Florida panhandle and began as a planned community in the 1930s. Franklin D. Roosevelt promoted the resettlement effort to relocate urban and rural families to cooperative communities to ease the effects of the Depression on farmers. Although it was well intended, the project did not go as planned.
Today this rural, unincorporated area in northern Okaloosa County is home to a fraction of the many thousands of people living in the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach-Destin, Florida area, and is home to about 5000 people.
