The town of Bostwick is located about nine miles north of Palatka. It is a small unincorporated town that is partially on the banks of the St Johns River. Though this little town does not have the same amount of significant historical events as Palatka, there are some pretty neat aspects to the town.
Located in the heart of Bostwick is Bostwick Baptist Church. This little country church is where evangelist Billy Graham preached his first sermon on Easter night, March 28, 1947. The church has since moved into a newer, updated sanctuary, but the original church is still there today.
The Bostwick School, built in 1921 and used until 1977, is located next door to Bostwick Baptist Church. It was recently added to the National Registry of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. The interior and exterior have since both been restored. The town’s public library moved from its location at another closed elementary school into the Bostwick School. The elementary school was then demolished, and a community center was built in its place.
The town is also home to the annual Bostwick Blueberry Festival. It is held every April, and admission is free. Folks come from all over the state to enjoy a blueberry pancake breakfast, blueberry ice cream, to buy local blueberries, browse to vendors, and take home a fresh blueberry pie.
