Astor Florida
Located on the west side of the St. Johns River is the small community with a rich history known as the city of Astor. It was the year 1874 when 13,000 acres were purchased by William B. Astor naming his small part of Florida Manhattan. He was the grandson to multi-millionaire John Jacob Astor, and he named the land Manhattan. Mr. Astor was very successful with his new adventure. He built up the riverfront for the steamboats and built a successful railroad that paved a way for goods and services for the surrounding towns. In the year of 1884 the town name changed from Manhattan to Astor. Today the city of Astor is filled with ecotourism, boating fishing. A great visit is the Astor bridge that was built in 1957 followed up with a nice seafood dinner from the famous Drifters Riverfront Bar & Grill.
