Enoch is an agricultural and rural city in Iron County, Utah in the northeast part of Cedar Valley. 8,016 people live there.
History
Settlers originally settled Enoch as part of an iron mission that included Parowan and Cedar City. The town's original name was Fort Johnson and Johnson Springs, which was a reference to Joel H. Johnson, who settled in the area in 1851. Early settlers were ranchers, dairy farmers, beekeepers and iron workers.
The townspeople changed the town's name to Enoch in 1890 to avoid confusion with another town named Johnson Springs. The town's current name is a reference to the Order of Enoch. The town incorporated in 1966 and absorbed the towns of Stevensville, Williamsville and Grimshawville. The population remained at just a few hundred people until developers started building suburbs in the early 2000s. Notable residents of the town include rodeo trick rider and Hollywood actress, Texas Rose Bascom and inventor, religious leader, politician, judge, poet and composer, Joel Hills Johnson.
Recreation
Dog owners can enjoy a romp with their pooch at the Enoch dog park. History buffs may want to visit the historical markers at Iron Works Park. The town is to the northwest of popular tourist destinations for skiers, golfers, hikers, campers, boaters, mountain bikers, anglers and other outdoor enthusiasts.
