Orange is a city in Texas that serves as the county seat of Orange county. As of 2020, the population in Orange was about 19,000 people. It is part of the Beaumont-Port Arthur Metropolitan statistical area. It's located right next to the Texas/Louisiana state line. Orange has a total area of 20.8 square miles, most of it land.

Although the climate of Orange is generally mild, temperatures have been known to plummet below freezing or climb as high as 90 degrees. Historically, the weather has gotten colder and hotter than these, but that is not the norm for this area. This area gets about 60 inches of rain each year -- more than the national average!

History of Orange, Texas

Before 1830, Resin Green arrived by boat in this area and named it Greens Bluff. In 1840, the area was renamed Madison in honor of President James Madison. However, there was another community called Madisonville and there was frequent confusion between the two and post-office mixups. The community of Madison was then renamed "Orange."

Orange was known for being a major player in Texas' lumber industry. After the Great Depression, the area saw a loss in community members and a shift in the economy. Now, Orange's economy is mostly fueled by chemical plants.
