Nederland is a town in Jefferson County, Texas. As of 2020, the population was around 18,800 people. It is bordered by Port Neches, Port Arthur, and Central Gardens. The area is about 5.8 square miles, most of which is land.

Although the climate of Nederland is generally mild, temperatures sometimes dip just below freezing or rise above 90 degrees.

History of Nederland, Texas

In 1897, Dutch settlers were given Nederland by the Dutch bankers who financed the Kansas City Southern railroad that ran through the area. Nederland is a dutch word that translates to "Lowland."

The economy in the early days was run by rice and dairy farming. The rice industry, however, tanked in 1907 with overproduction and many settlers moved away.

Overtime, the industry, and population has ebbed and flowed. Nederland is now known as the end of the Keystone Pipeline.

In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey struck the area and caused widespread damage. SERVPRO helped clean up damaged properties in the region.
