Bonham is one of Texas’s oldest cities, dating back to 1837 when settlers first came to Texas originally naming the settlement “Bois D’ Arc” by Bailey Ingram and acquaintances. This northeastern Texas town was renamed Bloomington in 1843 by the Congress of the Republic of Texas, but was later renamed again Bonham in honor of James Butler Bonham, a defender of the Alamo. The city was finally incorporated in February of 1848.
Only thirty-five minutes from Texas A&M University - Commerce, Bonham has its own public airport, Jones Field, located about two miles from downtown. Many attractions and events that Bonham offers keep locals and visitors alike keep coming back every year for the Bonham Trade Days, Texas’ Largest Barn Quilt Trial, and Heritage Day Festival. With a population over 10,500 residents, the multiple museums and parks in the city are happily visited year-round.
