The Bishop Arts area of Dallas is known for it's unique, independently owned bars, restaurants, coffee shops, galleries, theaters, boutique shops. The real estate developer Jim Lake Sr. played a major role revitalizing the area in the 1980s and coined the term "Bishop Arts District". In the 1920s and 1930s, the area was known for it's shops and warehouses. It was a popular trolley stop. In the 1970s, it became known more as an artistic area due to the proliferation of artists who decided to set up shop there.
Bishop Arts has experienced a tremendous amount of growth over the last couple of years blending a lot of the old and new. People have flocked to the area due to the laid back vibe and great location.
