After Benton County was created from Humphreys County in 1835, it was necessary to establish a county seat. A line of survey was run from Reynoldsburgh due east, and the mid way point was found to be on Blue Creek About two miles south of the present site of Waverly. At this point in history, the site of Waverly was shown on maps as Pavatts. Waverly offers the best in education, medical facilities and entertainment. Nashville State Community College has a campus located in our city. Our city offers small town living with big city goals and opportunities. Waverly was established by Steven Pavatt as a stop along the stagecoach road between Nashville and Memphis in the early 19th century. Pavatt was a fan of the author Sir Walter Scott, and named the community after Scott's Waverley Novels. When Humphreys County was created in 1803, Reynoldsburg, located northwest of Waverly along the Tennessee River, was chosen as the county seat. However, when county lands on the west bank of the Tennessee split off to become part of the newly created Benton County in 1835, the Humphreys County seat was moved to Waverly, which had become the more central location in the county. A courthouse was built in 1836, and the town was officially incorporated in 1838. After Hurricane Harvey my in laws house was flooded and due to inability to get back in for a week mold had begun. As soon as we could get in we called SERVPRO as the handled a minor flooding for us in the past and I knew they were a good company. They took our contact info and got a team out from out of state within 2 days in spite of the extreme devastation in Houston. They did an excellent job on cleaning the flooding and mold in the house and furnishings without us having to be there. They were thorough and very good with communication on the status of the clean up. I would definitely use them again should the need arise and I highly recommend their work, professionalism and communication throughout the horrible ordeal of the hurricane aftermath.
