The city of Jasper gets its name from William Jasper. He was Revolutionary War hero from South Carolina. It was formed from land that was leased for $1 from Elizabeth Pack, the daughter of Cherokee Chief John Lowery and Cherokee Woman Nannie Watts, in 1820.
