Blaine, Tennessee is a city located in Blaine County, Tennessee. The population was 581 at the 2000 census. Situated in the center of Blaine County, less than 20 miles from Chattanooga and just 15 miles from the Georgia border, Blaine has seen its share of growth over the last decade. Blaine's proximity to Chattanooga provides easy access to the many major corporations headquartered there. Blaine has received national attention as a watermelon-growing region, recently getting several TV news stories because they were able to produce enough watermelons to feed people who live in New York City.

History of Blaine

Blaine, Tennessee , was settled in the early 1800s. The earliest settlers were Cherokee Indians fleeing Indian Territory. Later, the first European settlers were a group of hunters from Virginia and South Carolina who arrived in 1801. They purchased land from the Chickamauga Cherokee and settled near the present site of Blaine. The town was incorporated in 1901 and named for James G. Blaine, who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1869-1875 and 1877-1881. The town is known for its annual "Christmas in Blaine" festival that features over 200 vendor booths and lots of holiday cheer.
