Spearfish, South Dakota is a city that's origins started long before the Gold Rush of 1876 when the town was incorporated. Many Sioux and other tribes used the area before the gold rush, making Spearfish (known as Queen City at the time) the main supplier of foodstuffs in the mining camps dotting the Black Hills. Even today Spearfish is known for its significant amount of truck farming and market gardening in the Black Hills. In 1887 the history of gold mining in the area was put into question when the Thoen Stone was discovered which predates the purported discovery of gold in the area in 1876 by over 40 years. Nevertheless, Spearfish’s history pre-dates the discovery of gold and mining bringing many people to the area such as famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, in fact in 1938 Spearfish became the permanent home of Joseph Meier who brought the Luenen Passion Play to the area drawing thousands of visitors every year until his death in 2007.

My 2015 Ford Explorer Sport sat outside for 8 weeks during Covid19. I didn't need to drive. When I finally started it I found that a packrat or mouse had died into the vehicle's air system.
