Kiawah Island is a barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. It's about 25 miles southwest of Charleston and located in Charleston County, South Carolina. For the most part, Kiawah Island is home to private beaches and glorious golf courses such as the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. As of 2020, the population on Kiawah Island was about 2,000.

Kiawah Island's climate is similar to that of other coastal towns in South Carolina. During the winter, temperatures average about 60 degrees Fahrenheit—rising to around 90 during summer days.

History of Kiawah Island, South Carolina

Kiawah Island is named after the Kiawah Indians who had settled in the area. in 1699, Captain George Raynor took possession of the island and then sold half of it in 1701 to Captain William Davis. The island was passed down in both families for several years until John Stanyarne bought the other half of the island from the Davis family.

The land stayed in the Raynor family (changing names throughout history) until 1950 when it was sold to C.C. Royal for logging and timber. Shortly after, Royal began to develop the island.
