Lightstreet is a small quiet town located in Columbia County. Originally called Williamsburg , the community was laid out by Phillip Seidle in 1817. In 1821 it grew to a whopping six residents. The first gristmill was built in 1923 and then rebuilt by Samuel L. Bettle in 1868. Samuel also built an additional gristmill south of the first one in 1825. A northern by the name of Matthew McDowell built the first post office which was near the original gristmill. Waterpower was big back in the 1800s and Fishing Creek powered both of the mills back then. The community was once home to a tannery and two distilleries. IN 1844 the names was changed from Williamsburg to what we know it today as Lightstreet.
