Lehighton is a quaint town situated along the Lehigh River in Carbon County, Pennsylvania.
In the 19th century, Lehighton was an early center for the U.S. industrial revolution. The Lehigh River's powerful current provided a reliable energy source for developing industries. In 1864, the Lehigh Valley Railroad was built to carry anthracite coal from nearby Jim Thorpe.
