The bridge was rebuilt after hurricane Agnes destroyed the bridge in 1972 and where the raised the bridge 5 additional feet to prevent it from happening again. Every time Greencastle is impacted by heavy rains you can also see the Conococheague Creek levels rise and impact nearby homes or properties with water damage.
