Fern Rock, a neighborhood located in the upper section of North Philadelphia is named after the ancestral estate of Elisha Kent Kane, a renowned arctic explorer and naval surgeon from Philadelphia. Today, the neighborhood is filled with a large population of single-family homes and apartment buildings. Situated between Oley Avenue and Oak lane, Fern Rock serves as a transportation hub for the metro area. The northern terminus of the Broad Street Line subway is located in Fern Rock at the Fern Rock Transportation Center. Four SEPTA Regional Rail lines also run through this station.
