Prior to the arrival of Europeans the area was occupied by the Lenape people for many years. Early settlers were predominantly Irish followed by Germans in 1762. Early on Dublin became the center of the community and nearby towns by establishing a general store, a tavern, and a clothing factory. The historic Kookers General store still stands today. It was the original general store built in town. This first church built, named St Luke's United Church of Christ is also still standing and is now tagged as a historic site by the state. The population in Dublin increased dramatically during the 1980s and 1990s. This led to many neighborhoods being built in the area. A large number of residential homes and apartment buildings were built during this time. There was also a major increase in retail space during this time. One of the focal points in the center of town is the shopping center built during the 1990s. Peace Valley park was built around this time in an effort to attract people to the area. It is now one of the most popular parks around and includes a beautiful lake and walking trails. More homes are being built in the area each year.
