Pacific City, Oregon is a beach town in Tillamook County. The Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area is the main attraction. It includes sandy beaches, surfing, and stunning views of the Oregon coast.  

Landmarks include the rocky “sea stack” just offshore. A towering sand dune allows access to the top of Cape Kiwanda for views of the ocean surf crashing against the coastal rocks below. The resulting breakwater shelters the beaches, making them excellent spots for fishing, surfing, and gazing out to see.   

The town arose in 1893 when Thomas Malaney established what was then called “Ocean Park” across the river from Woods, Oregon. He moved the town to higher ground after a flood in 1894. The town became Pacific City in 1909 to avoid confusion with the Washington town of Ocean Park.  

Fishing was the industry until the 1920s. Tourism took over until the Great Depression of the 1930s. Midwesterners often traveled to Oregon to see the ocean and take in the sights. Since the post-WWII era, tourism has become a big business again in Pacific City.  

It is an ideal place to visit and live.
