Coal mining in Wadsworth began in the mid 1880’s. In fact the Silvercreek Mine shipped over 1100 tons of coal in one day, which is a record that is believed to have not been broken yet. An impressive record considering the coal was dug by hand and transported by mule pulling small carts thru the mine shafts. Coal mining stopped in the 1930’s, but the mine shafts still remain beneath Wadsworth.

There are over 200 acres of parks for families to enjoy hiking, playgrounds, fishing, ice skating, biking and more for recreation and relaxation.
