The small Village of Chippewa Lake is located in southern Medina County on the banks of Chippewa Lake, one of the largest natural inland lakes in the State of Ohio.  The lake was created by the melting of the glacial ice sheets some 14,000 years ago.  With beautiful views and many recreational activities, it has provided entertainment to people for hundreds of years.  The lake took its name from a tribe of Native Americans who would come to the lakeshore to hunt and trade.

In 1875 a man named Edward Andrews thought the lake would be a great place for a park.  A steamboat gave rides across the lake and a crude roller coaster was built.  By 1898 the land was purchased by Mac Beach and he began making the park as a family friendly place to come.  Eventually food stands were built and real roller coasters, a carousel, Ferris wheel and ballroom were installed.  Eventually the park struggled to keep a steady flow of visitors and closed down in 1978.  A large estate in the town still remains intact and has operated for years as The Oaks Lodge restaurant.
