History of Secor Gardens
Secor Gardens, New York is a very old town. Secor Gardens was first settled in the early 1700s and was once part of an enormous tract of Mohawk Indian land. In 1763, the Indians signed over their rights for two pieces of Chain, about 144 acres each. These were cut up into smaller parcels which are now known as Broken Corners, Half Moon Hill, Secor Gardens and Short Falls. In the early 1900's, it was settled by a German-speaking community of Poles and Italians. These people brought their marriage customs and traditions to the mix and created a unique cultural experience which can still be seen today through their many festivals. The town became incorporated in 1921.
