English and Dutch initially settled in Rego Park in 1653. The area served as farmlands until the 1920s, growing hay, straw, rye, corn, oats, and vegetables. Then, in 1923, developers from the Read Good Construction Company bought several farms. To develop the area's housing market.

The Rego Park we know today started with 525 8-room houses, each priced at $8,000. This attracted many immigrants and natives to the area before the Great Depression. Then, in 1939, construction resumed, as the remaining open land on 99th Street and Queens Blvd was developed into apartment buildings.
