Putnam Lake is an unincorporated community in Upstate New York. Though not a designated geographic/political location, this tiny hamlet is still important to its approximately 4000 residents. Its history, dating back to the Great War, was called Valleyville. 

In 1930, the State Line Golf and Country Club teamed up with the Smadbeck family's New York Daily Mirror Holding Co. to purchase five farms. Together, these farms spanned 1,111 acres, crossing into both Patterson and New Fairfield, Connecticut. They dammed Morlock Brook, which flooded the area once known as Valleyville, forming a 200-acre lake.

The Putnam Lake Property Owners Association, now known as the Putnam Lake Community Council, was formed in the 1930s, with Herbert M. Holton as its first president. This entity developed the baseball field and swimming pool along with infrastructures like paved roads, electricity, and other elements.

The Putnam Valley Library offers crafters an assortment of activities encompassing many different media. The Putnam Rotary Club meets on Wednesdays and helps local projects such as the Food Pantry, Restoration of Historial Sites, and a Scholarship Fund. You can always drop down to the Senior Center on Tuesday for Line Dancing followed by Trivial Pursuit. The small area boasts of many eateries like the Putnam Diner and Restaurant for American standard wares to Panino Italian Gourmet.
