Verona is a town in Essex County, New Jersey and is located in the historic Northern Valley. It is the tenth most populous municipality in the state with a population around 13,000, making it one of the most densely populated municipality in North America. Verona was ranked among Money magazine’s “The 100 Best Places to Live” from 2011 to 2013. Many residents like to climb up the mountain side if they're looking for something challenging and fun. History of Verona, New Jersey

Verona was originally part of the town called Horseneck Tract because it resembled the neck and head of a horse, until 1702. A large group of settlers purchased some land from the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. After the Revolutionary War, the area was called "Caldwell Township" in honor of local war veteran, James Caldwell. In the 1800's, this area became known as Vernon Valley, but that name was rejected by the United States Postal Services because of a nearby town with the same name already in use. The community chose Verona as an alternative, naming the area after Verona, Italy.
