History of Montclair

On April 15, 1868, Montclair was formed as a township in New Jersey so a second railroad could be built in the area. Montclair was reincorporated as a town in February 1894. The name Montclair is french for "clear mountain" or "bright mountain." The climate is fairly temperate in Montclair. The summers are warm, hot and tend to be humid, while the winters are cool and cold. Montclair is also home to many historic sites including: The Anchorage, Anderson Park, Carnegie Library and the Joseph Bardsley House.
