On Oct. 2009, Ft. Dix was transformed into the US Army Support Activity Ft. Dix. 31,000 acres of Ft. Dix were consolidated with Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst-McGuire Air Force Base to become Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
Originally, the name was Camp Dix in honor of Civil War Veteran, Maj. Ge. John Adams Dix, also a veteran of the war of 1812. Also known as Camp 13, it was one of 13 camps established to train soldiers for WW I and served as a training center during WW II.
In recent years, Burlington County, including Ft. Dix, has received record amounts of participation. In 2018 the county recorded the rainiest year since 1895. Because of excessive rains the Ft.
