History of Welcome
“Welcome to Welcome, A Friendly Place.” Welcome has a population of approximately 5,162 and is in Davidson County. It is home to Welcome Elementary School, North Davidson Middle School, and North Davidson High School.
Welcome, North Carolina is also home to the nationally known Richard Childress Racing, owned by Richard Childress. NASCAR racers Austin and Ty Dillon were born in Welcome, NC. Austin Dillon has won the Coca-Cola 500 and the Daytona 500 as well as many others. Ty has spent most of his NASCAR career driving for Richard Childress Racing. Visitors come from all over just to visit the Richard Childress Racing Museum and Gift Shop.
Another attraction near Welcome is the North Carolina Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It is located at mile marker 100 on I-85 at the back of a rest area. There are signs that point to the Memorial. The Memorial is a red brick wall with plaques of the names of soldiers from North Carolina who were either killed or missing while fighting in the Vietnam War.
