History of Currytown

Nestled along Highway 150 in Davidson County, located within the township of Reedy Creek, is a community called Currytown, North Carolina. The community is best known for its local church: Currytown Baptist Church. Because the community of Currytown is located within the township of Reedy Creek, there are no demographics to show specifically for this community. Visitors of Currytown can take advantage of many golf courses located in the area, including the Sapona Golf, Swim, and Tennis Club, and Oak Valley Golf Club.

The community of Currytown is also home to Yadkin College, which was founded in 1875 by the Methodist Protestant Church. The founders of the college hoped that the rural setting of this college would help the students from sinfulness, often displayed by college students. In 1883, the college because a preparatory school and operated until the 1890s when it achieved its Junior College status. In 1898, the college became a high school again until the rise of public high schools at the turn of the 20^th century, which led to the closing of the building in 1924. In 1984, Yadkin College was placed on the National Registration of Historic Places in the year of 1984.
